We rebuilt a similar enrollment system for a charter school in Plymouth that reduced paper processing from 4 days to 4 hours. Parents submitted documents digitally, teachers accessed real-time class lists, and the principal received automated alerts when any student’s immunization records were incomplete. The key wasn’t adding more features but removing friction from the daily workflows that teachers and administrators actually use.


Most off-the-shelf school systems force you to adapt your process. We start by mapping how your teachers actually teach, not how the software thinks they should. One Hanson school needed to track which students qualified for free breakfast based on district census data, but their current system required manual updates that lagged by two weeks. We built a REST API that pulls directly from the town’s demographic database, so eligibility updates happen automatically overnight without any staff intervention.


The real problem isn’t usually the software, it’s the data silos. Hanson schools use at least four different systems: Infinite Campus for state reporting, a separate lunch program tracker, a volunteer sign-up sheet run on Google Forms, and the physical sign-in binder by the front door. We designed a single Laravel backend that connects to all of them, creating one source of truth that everyone trusts. Teachers see what they need in their classroom dashboard, the principal gets roll-up reports for the school committee, and the IT director no longer has to troubleshoot three different vendor logins.


One common misconception is that school software has to be clunky because it’s handling sensitive student data. Not true. We used React for the frontend because it handles real-time updates better than traditional page reloads, imagine teachers updating attendance on tablets during class changeover while the system automatically syncs with the district’s transportation routing software. MySQL stores the relational data efficiently, and Firebase handles push notifications for things like emergency lockdown alerts that need to reach every device instantly.
