We once rebuilt a school’s gradebook system after the off-the-shelf product kept crashing during midterm reporting. The school’s existing platform stored grades in a single table with no indexing, so running a query for 600 students took 90 seconds and locked the entire system. Parents couldn’t check grades mid-semester because the tool timed out. We rebuilt the backend in Laravel with a normalized schema and added a React frontend that loads grades in under 3 seconds. Teachers could update and view grades simultaneously, and the system now handles 2,000 concurrent users without a hiccup.
