School Management System in Antioch, California

We started with a Bay Area charter network that operates two schools in Antioch and Richmond. Their existing system forced teachers to log grades in one tool, attendance in another, and parent messages in a third. Parents were frustrated by delayed responses and outdated information. Teachers spent 30% of their week on administrative tasks instead of instruction. When they came to us, they needed a single system that could replace all three tools without disrupting daily operations during the school year.


The build took 16 weeks from blueprint to go-live, with teachers testing every feature during winter break. We used React for the teacher and parent portals because the interface needed to feel familiar to users who had never used an education platform before. Laravel handled the backend logic for scheduling, grading, and reporting because we needed a system that could scale when the network expands to a third campus next year. Each teacher’s dashboard loads in under 1.8 seconds, even with 200+ students per teacher, because we lazy-loaded the gradebook component instead of rendering it all at once.


Parent communication improved immediately. Before, a teacher might answer a message by the end of the day. After go-live, parents get an instant acknowledgment and a detailed response within two hours during school days. The network’s parent satisfaction score jumped from 68% to 92% in one semester, measured through quarterly surveys sent via the same system. Teachers reported a 22% reduction in time spent on administrative tasks in the first month of use.


Schools in Antioch face unique challenges that generic systems ignore. Many families speak Spanish as a first language, so we built real-time translation layers into the parent portal using Firebase’s Cloud Translation API. The system also integrates with Antioch Unified School District’s student information system via REST APIs, so data flows automatically without manual entry. When the district changed its grading scale mid-year, we pushed an update in 48 hours instead of waiting for the vendor to schedule a patch.
