Technology choices matter here. We used Laravel for the backend because it handles the complex patient-data relationships better than Node.js in this context. React powers the frontend so the interface updates instantly when a nurse updates a chart, and MySQL keeps the patient data secure while allowing fast queries across 20,000+ records. The REST API connects to your existing lab systems and billing software without requiring expensive middleware.


Here’s the tradeoff: Flutter gives you a native mobile app for iOS and Android, but if your staff primarily uses desktop computers, a responsive web app built with React is faster to deploy and costs less to maintain. We built both for a clinic in El Campo and let the client choose after a two-week pilot. They went with the web app and saved $14,000 annually in app store fees and device management.
